This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal data when you use our Site, sign up to emails, interact with our social channels, or click our affiliate links. It is written for UK users and follows the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and PECR. gov.uk+2ico.org.uk+2
This notice is for information only and is not legal advice.
1) What data we collect
a) Information you provide
Contact details (e.g., name, email) when you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us, or comment on posts.
Any content you submit (e.g., comments, enquiries).
b) Information collected automatically
Technical data (IP address, device type, browser, operating system, referring URLs).
Usage data (pages viewed, time on page, scroll/click events).
Cookie identifiers and similar technologies (see Cookies & similar technologies below).
c) Affiliate interaction data
When you click an affiliate link, the affiliate network (e.g., Travelpayouts) and/or merchant (e.g., Booking.com, Expedia, TripAdvisor, Trip.com, GetYourGuide, Discover Cars, EKTA, Airalo) may set cookies or use other tracking to attribute any qualifying purchase. We receive reporting about clicks, bookings, and commissions, typically as aggregated statistics and order IDs—not your full payment details.
d) Special category data
We do not intentionally collect special category data (e.g., health, ethnicity). Please do not submit such information.
2) Lawful bases for processing
We rely on one or more of the following lawful bases:
Consent — for email marketing and for non-essential cookies (e.g., analytics/advertising/affiliate tracking). You can withdraw consent at any time. ico.org.uk+1
Legitimate interests — to run, protect, and improve our Site (e.g., security logs, basic analytics), to moderate comments, and to understand content performance. We balance these interests against your rights and freedoms.
Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law (e.g., tax/accounting).
Contract — where we need your data to supply content or respond to enquiries you request.
3) How we use your data
To operate and maintain the Site (troubleshooting, security, performance).
To publish content and manage comments/community features.
To send newsletters/updates where you opt in.
To measure content performance and improve user experience.
To disclose clearly labelled affiliate links, attribute referrals, and calculate commissions.
To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
4) Cookies & similar technologies
We use cookies, pixels, and device identifiers to (a) make the Site work (e.g., load balancing, security, basic preferences) and (b) measure and improve content, and (c) track affiliate referrals.
Strictly necessary cookies operate on the basis of legitimate interests and do not require consent.
Non-essential cookies (e.g., analytics, advertising/affiliate) require consent under PECR and UK GDPR. We will ask for your consent via our cookie banner and remember your choice; you can change preferences anytime. ico.org.uk+2ico.org.uk+2
You can also control cookies via your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect Site functionality.
5) Email marketing
If you opt in, we will send updates about new posts, guides, and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in our emails or by contacting us.
6) Children
Our Site is aimed at a general audience and is not directed to children. Where consent is the lawful basis for an online service, in the UK only children aged 13 or over can consent for themselves; otherwise, parental/guardian consent is required. ico.org.uk
7) Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with:
Service providers (processors): hosting, security, analytics, email service provider, form tools, comment/anti-spam tools. They act on our instructions and are bound by contract.
Affiliate partners and networks: we share or they independently collect data necessary to attribute referrals (e.g., click IDs, order IDs) and pay commissions.
Legal/Compliance: where required by law, to protect rights, or to respond to lawful requests.
Business changes: if we reorganise our business, data may transfer to a successor controller under equivalent safeguards.
8) International transfers
Some providers may process data outside the UK/EEA. Where this occurs, we rely on UK adequacy regulations (where available) or appropriate safeguards such as the ICO’s IDTA or UK Addendum to the EU SCCs. Details are available on request.
9) Data retention
We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes described:
Contact/enquiry records: typically up to 24 months after last correspondence.
Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe or your address hard-bounces.
Analytics/affiliate data: per tool/network settings and our suppression/aggregation schedules.
Legal/financial records: as required by law (often 6 years in the UK).
10) Your rights
You have the rights to be informed, access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object, and rights related to automated decision-making (including profiling), subject to conditions and exemptions. To exercise these rights, email david@planpackgo.blog. If we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. You also have the right to complain to the ICO (details below). ico.org.uk+2ico.org.uk+2
11) How to exercise your rights
Please email david@planpackgo.blog with “Privacy request” in the subject and tell us:
which right(s) you wish to exercise;
information to help us locate your data;
proof of identity (we’ll explain what we need).
We aim to respond within one month (extensions possible for complex requests). We’ll never charge for standard requests unless permitted by law.
12) Security
We use administrative, technical, and organisational measures to protect personal data (access controls, encryption in transit where available, least-privilege access, regular updates). No system is 100% secure.
13) Third-party links & content
Our Site contains links to third-party websites and embedded content (e.g., maps, videos, partner widgets). Those services have their own privacy and cookie policies which we do not control. Please review them before providing data or making purchases.
14) Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes to our practices, services, or the law (including updates to cookies/PECR guidance). We will post the new version with a new “Effective date.” ico.org.uk
